Angel Reese, a standout basketball player at Maryland and LSU, has a message for college seniors as they prepare for life after graduation. During her college career, Reese became a major star, earning multiple first-team All-America honors and winning the 2023 national championship with LSU. Her success led to her being selected as the No. 7 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft.
While Reese has had an impressive start to her professional career with the Chicago Sky, she acknowledges that transitioning to the real world comes with added responsibilities. She shared this reality with college students on social media, writing, “I hope yall realize once you leave college, life reallyyyyy start lifinggg.”
Reese has quickly established herself in the WNBA, earning All-Star honors and leading the league in rebounding and double-doubles as a rookie. However, she has also been open about the financial challenges that come with playing in the league. Despite her on-court success, she previously stated that her WNBA salary of $73,439 was not enough to cover her expenses. She mentioned that her rent alone costs $8,000 per month, making it clear that she relies on other sources of income.
Fortunately, Reese has lucrative endorsement deals that help supplement her salary. Additionally, she earned a $50,000 bonus for winning the championship in the inaugural season of Unrivaled with Rose Basketball Club. She later referenced this earnings in a social media exchange with fellow WNBA player Sydney Colson, explaining that the bonus was more than half of her rookie contract and that she needed to hold onto it for now.
As the WNBA offseason comes to an end, Reese is preparing for her second season in the league. She and the Chicago Sky will begin their 2025 campaign with a game against the Indiana Fever on May 17.
