Cowboys Making Big Moves! More Trades Coming? Stephen Jones Hints at Major Roster Shake-Up

The Dallas Cowboys have been notably active this offseason, marking a shift from their usual approach in recent years. While some remain skeptical and prefer to see results before forming opinions, the team has undeniably been more engaged in free agency and roster moves.

Dallas has already made several free agent acquisitions, even during the legal tampering period before the new league year officially began. This proactive approach differs from the team’s strategy in past seasons.

In addition to free agency signings, the Cowboys have also completed two trades. They leveraged compensatory draft picks to trade with the Buffalo Bills and Tennessee Titans, acquiring cornerback Kaiir Elam and linebacker Kenneth Murray. While these deals may not be on the same level as past trades for players like Stephon Gilmore and Brandin Cooks, they do indicate a more aggressive front-office approach than what fans have come to expect.

With the NFL owners’ meetings taking place this week, team executives from across the league have been addressing the media. Stephen Jones, the Cowboys’ executive vice president, was asked about further roster additions and confirmed that more trades are being considered.

Jones stated outright that the team is exploring trade opportunities. This suggests that Dallas has already identified potential trade targets and engaged in discussions with other teams, even if no agreements have been finalized yet.

Currently, the Cowboys hold 10 selections in the 2025 NFL Draft:

1st Round: 12th overall

2nd Round: 44th overall

3rd Round: 76th overall

5th Round: 149th overall

5th Round: 171st overall (compensatory pick)

5th Round: 174th overall (compensatory pick)

6th Round: 204th overall (from Kaiir Elam trade)

6th Round: 211th overall (compensatory pick)

7th Round: 239th overall (from Kenneth Murray trade)

7th Round: 247th overall (from Jonathan Mingo trade)

It seems unlikely that Dallas will use all 10 picks, though history has shown that unexpected draft strategies can unfold.

Jones is typically cautious when discussing trades, so his comments shouldn’t be taken as a guarantee of imminent action. However, his confidence suggests that the Cowboys are seriously considering further moves and could strike another deal before the draft.
