Some Players Leave with Championships, Others Leave a Legacy
Not every player departs with a championship ring or a record-breaking career, but some leave behind something even more significant—a legacy of bringing Kentucky basketball back to its rightful place.
Andrew Carr was one of those players.
Following the end of Kentucky’s season, Carr shared an emotional farewell. He posted a picture of himself high-fiving fans on his way off the court earlier in the season, adding nothing but a few 💔 emojis as the caption. Sometimes, words aren’t needed to express what’s in the heart.
A Season of Resilience and Pain
Carr’s statistics don’t fully capture his impact. Throughout the season, he dealt with persistent back spasms, yet he never used them as an excuse. Game after game, he laced up his shoes, stepped onto the court, and gave his all for Kentucky.
2024-25 Season Stats:
- Points Per Game: 10.3
- Rebounds Per Game: 4.7
- Field Goal Percentage: 54.4%
- Three-Point Percentage: 32.4%
More than just numbers, Carr was a tough, all-around forward who provided leadership and grit wherever he played. Even as his statistical production declined, his influence on the team never wavered.
Helping Kentucky Make History
Carr was an integral part of a team that helped bring Kentucky basketball back to prominence. This season marked the program’s first Sweet 16 appearance since 2019, featuring wins against powerhouse teams like Duke, Gonzaga, Louisville, and Tennessee (twice). Their postseason run also saw Kentucky triple its total number of wins from the previous three years combined.
After the season-ending loss, Carr found it difficult to remove his jersey, telling reporters:
“I don’t want to untie my shoes or take off this jersey. Shoutout to BBN—it’s like nowhere else I’ve ever experienced.”
In a powerful moment, he paused the press conference to send a message to players considering their next move in the transfer portal:
“If you’re in the transfer portal and looking for a place to go—go to Kentucky.”
Then, with one final gesture, he proudly flexed his Kentucky jersey.
A Wildcat Forever
Andrew Carr’s season may not have gone exactly as he envisioned, but his contributions extended beyond the court. He was part of something much larger—the foundation of Kentucky basketball’s resurgence.
Head coach Mark Pope summed it up best:
“They set a higher standard—on the court and off. I’m grateful for that, and that standard will carry us a long way. We’ll be talking about these guys 10 years from now for what they did to establish that.”
Some players are remembered for their stats, others for championship banners. But Carr will be remembered for his relentless fight, his unwavering heart, and his belief that Kentucky basketball was still elite.
Because of him and his teammates, that belief has become a reality.
