Tom Izzo tears up & gets emotional after Michigan State advanced to the Elite Eight for the first time in six years

Michigan State head coach Tom Izzo became emotional following his team’s victory in the Sweet Sixteen on Friday night. The Spartans secured a hard-fought 73-70 win over the Ole Miss Rebels, earning a spot in the Elite Eight for the first time in six years.

After the game, Izzo spoke with CBS reporter Tracy Wolfson and expressed deep admiration for his players. With tears in his eyes, the 70-year-old coach praised their resilience and determination.

“I love these guys,” Izzo said emotionally. “It’s simple. They don’t quit. We’ve been a second-half team. One of these days we’re gonna be a first-half team.”

A separate video captured the veteran coach still visibly emotional as he made his way back to the locker room.

Despite the significance of the win, Izzo remained focused on the ultimate goal. Speaking to the media after the game, he emphasized that the team’s mission was not complete until they won the national championship.

“We don’t put up banners for great eights. We put up banners for championships,” he stated, reinforcing his championship mindset.
