Detroit Lions Extend Ford Field Partnership Through 2036
The Detroit Lions have officially secured the long-term future of their stadium name, announcing an extension of their partnership with Ford Motor Company that will keep Ford Field as the team’s home through the 2036 season.
A Longstanding Commitment to Detroit
Since opening in 2002, Ford Field has been an integral part of downtown Detroit’s sports and entertainment scene. With this renewed agreement, the Lions and Ford Motor Company reaffirm their commitment to both the franchise and the city.
Lions President and CEO Rod Wood emphasized the importance of the partnership, calling it a top priority for the organization.
“Renewing our relationship with Ford Motor Company has always been a top priority for us,” Wood said. “Ford was an integral partner in our move back to downtown Detroit in 2002 and continues to be valuable to the growth of our brand. We are proud to have an iconic, Detroit-founded company’s name on our building for the foreseeable future.”
Ford President and CEO Jim Farley echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the shared values between the company and the team.
“Ford and the Lions are perfect partners – two iconic organizations that are both deeply rooted in Detroit,” Farley said. “Ever since Bill Ford spearheaded bringing Ford Field downtown, this stadium has helped drive Detroit’s comeback and hosted some of the biggest events in sports and entertainment. And just like our hometown, our Ford and Lions teams are defined by hard work and grit. So, we couldn’t be prouder to have the Lions and their fans keep calling their home ‘Ford Field.’”
Celebrating the Renewal
To mark the occasion, the Lions released a hype video featuring several key figures in Detroit sports and culture, including:
- Head coach Dan Campbell
- Running back David Montgomery
- Franchise legend Barry Sanders
- Detroit artists Big Sean and Kid Rock
This celebration highlights the deep cultural connection between the Lions, the city, and their passionate fan base. With this extended agreement, the Lions and Ford ensure that Ford Field remains a symbol of Detroit’s resilience, tradition, and pride for more than a decade to come.
