Bears Show Limited Interest in Boise State RB Ashton Jeanty Ahead of NFL Draft
As the 2025 NFL offseason nears the end of March, anticipation continues to build for the upcoming NFL Draft, now less than a month away. Chicago Bears fans are eagerly waiting to see how general manager Ryan Poles will use the team’s seven picks, especially the No. 10 overall selection.
One name drawing attention among Bears supporters is Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty. With rumors circulating about veteran RB D’Andre Swift potentially departing after an underwhelming 2024 campaign, Jeanty—one of this year’s top running back prospects—appears to be a strong candidate to replace him.
However, despite the fanbase’s enthusiasm, it appears the Bears may not be prioritizing Jeanty as a top target.
Limited Presence at Jeanty’s Pro Day Raises Doubts
During Boise State’s Pro Day on Wednesday, Audacy Sports’ Bill Zimmerman reported that Chicago was not “well-represented” in scouting Jeanty. While all 32 NFL teams sent a representative, the absence of Bears running backs coach Eric Bieniemy suggests that the team may not be seriously considering drafting the standout RB.
Zimmerman pointed out that the Bears had a much stronger presence at Ohio State’s Pro Day, where top executives—including Poles, offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, and head coach Dennis Allen—were in attendance. Given that Chicago selected quarterback Caleb Williams and wide receiver Rome Odunze in the first round last year after Poles personally attended their Pro Days, the lack of similar interest in Jeanty is notable.
Additionally, Zimmerman noted that teams like the Las Vegas Raiders and New Orleans Saints have reportedly shown interest in Jeanty, making it increasingly unlikely that he would be available by the time the Bears are on the clock at No. 10.
Jeanty’s Impressive College Performance
Jeanty put together an electrifying 2024 season at Boise State, leading all college football players in carries (374) and rushing yards (2,601) while recording a conference-best 29 rushing touchdowns. His ability to dominate defenses has placed him among the most coveted prospects in this year’s draft class.
Interestingly, Jeanty previously stated that he believed Chicago “might be a nice destination” for him to begin his professional career. If the Bears do end up selecting him, he could be a key piece of the team’s offense for years to come.
Will the Bears Take a Chance on Jeanty?
Ultimately, the Bears’ approach to the running back position will determine whether Jeanty ends up in Chicago. Given that upgrading the backfield isn’t a major priority, the team is unlikely to trade up for him. However, if he unexpectedly slides to the No. 10 spot, the Bears may not hesitate to take him—especially if they are focused on drafting the best player available.
The answers will soon be revealed, as the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft kicks off on Thursday, April 24, at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
