Amid Major White House Announcement, Ryan Day Drops Chip Kelly Message for Brian Hartline on Spring Practice

Ryan Day isn’t one to let things slide, and with spring ball underway, he’s making sure everyone knows it. With Chip Kelly leaving for the NFL, the Ohio State head coach has shifted responsibilities, and Brian Hartline now has a much bigger role in the offense. But calling plays isn’t just about strategy anymore—it’s about being the voice the quarterback hears every single snap. Day made it clear that Hartline has to step up and take full control of the offense, just like Kelly did.

A New Challenge for Hartline

Kelly’s approach was built on constant reps and communication, ensuring the quarterbacks were always locked in. Now, Hartline has to take on that role. Day emphasized how important it is for Hartline to interact with the quarterbacks daily, not just during games but in every practice and walkthrough. The expectations are sky-high at Ohio State, and there’s no room for growing pains.

Still, Day reassured that while changes are happening, the offensive system remains stable. He will stay involved in the offense, ensuring continuity. But the pressure is on Hartline—he has to adapt, find his rhythm, and keep the offense operating at an elite level.

Ohio State’s White House Visit

Ohio State will visit the White House on April 14 to celebrate its national championship win over Notre Dame. Ryan Day called it an honor, recalling how he used to watch championship teams make the trip to Washington, D.C., as a kid. This will be Ohio State’s first national title since Urban Meyer led the team to victory in 2014.

President Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance, an Ohio State alum, will welcome the team, marking the second championship squad to visit since Trump’s return to office. The Florida Panthers previously visited for their Stanley Cup win, and the Philadelphia Eagles are set to follow later in April.

For Ohio State, this moment is bigger than just football—it’s a recognition of a hard-fought season and a long-awaited return to the top. From Columbus to the nation’s capital, this visit cements their place in the history books.
