Coco Gauff’s Viral Camera Lens Message at the Miami Open
Three years after making a powerful statement about gun violence at the French Open, Coco Gauff once again left her mark with a camera lens message at the Miami Open. However, this time, her words reflected a different sentiment—one inspired by music.
Gauff’s Message and Dominic Fike’s Reaction
Following her victory over Maria Sakkari in the third round, Gauff took to the camera lens to scribble lyrics from Dominic Fike’s song Sunburn:
“When I die bury me in the sun – Fike.”

The moment quickly gained attention, especially when Fike himself reacted with a shocked face emoji on Instagram, signaling his surprise at the unexpected reference.
Shortly after, Gauff realized she had slightly misquoted the lyrics and playfully corrected herself on Instagram, writing:
“lol lay** not bury😂”**
She later shared another post with the correct wording from the song:
“When I die, baby, lay me in the sun ☀️.”
This lighthearted moment added to the fun atmosphere surrounding her Miami Open campaign, where she has been in dominant form.
Gauff’s Performance in Miami So Far
The American No. 1 continued her impressive run in the tournament, securing her place in the fourth round with a commanding 6-2, 6-4 victory over Sakkari. This followed a stunning 6-0, 6-0 win over compatriot Sofia Kenin in the second round.
While her previous match against Sakkari at Indian Wells had been a tightly contested battle, this time, Gauff took control early, breaking serve twice in the first set. Despite a slight dip in form during the second set, she sealed the win in straight sets without dropping a set so far in the tournament.
Now, Gauff is set to face Magda Linette in the fourth round. The Polish player has been in strong form, defeating Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, 18th seed Ekaterina Alexandrova, and Linda Fruhvirtova—all in straight sets. However, Gauff holds a 2-0 lead in their previous meetings, including a dominant victory last year in Wuhan.
Gauff’s Focus: Another Grand Slam Over World No. 1 Ranking
Beyond her performances on the court, Gauff also opened up about her goals. When asked whether she would prioritize becoming the world No. 1 or winning another Grand Slam, she made her stance clear:
“Another major. I’ve always said… I don’t know, I feel like people remember you more off majors than world No. 1 ranking. Obviously, if you could have both, that’s great. I think for me personally, especially with only having one, I would like to have another. Now, if I had like four and I hadn’t reached No. 1, then that maybe would be a different story. But only having one? I would like to have another just to cement myself even more.”
Her statement reflects a long-term ambition to further establish herself among the sport’s elite. While she captured her maiden Grand Slam at the 2023 US Open, she is still seeking success at Roland Garros, where she previously reached the final in 2022 but fell to Iga Swiatek.
Looking Ahead
As Gauff prepares for her fourth-round match against Linette, expectations are high. With a strong performance in Miami so far and a history of dominance against Linette, she appears well-positioned to make a deep run. However, given that she has never advanced past the quarterfinals at her home tournament, this year could be a breakthrough moment.
With her mix of focus, playfulness, and championship ambition, Gauff remains one of the most exciting players to watch.
