Negotiations are still underway for Nottingham Forest to recruit Nuno, a record-breaking £60 million talent

Nottingham Forest are reportedly in advanced talks to complete the signing of a “sensational” Premier League player this summer, with strong links to Wolves forward Matheus Cunha emerging.

Forest’s season has been nothing short of extraordinary. Under Nuno Espirito Santo’s management, they’ve demonstrated remarkable consistency in the Premier League, even securing impressive victories against top clubs like Liverpool and Manchester City. With just nine matches left in the 2024/25 season, they are in third place, now within reach of qualifying for the Champions League—a feat that seemed unimaginable at the start of the season when they were considered relegation contenders.

As the summer transfer window approaches, Forest have been linked with several high-profile signings. They are reportedly pursuing Udinese striker Lorenzo Lucca, who has scored 10 goals in Serie A this season. In addition, there are talks about signing Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP, one of Europe’s top attacking talents, with 83 goals in 91 matches for the Portuguese club.

In terms of immediate prospects, Forest are said to be “pushing hard” to secure Matheus Cunha from Wolves. The Brazilian forward has been one of the standout performers for Wolves this season, scoring 13 goals and providing four assists despite his team’s struggles at the bottom of the Premier League. Cunha, whose current contract includes a £60 million+ release clause, has been a key player for Wolves, with former player Micah Richards praising his “absolutely sensational” football IQ. Richards highlighted Cunha’s ability to find space, make the right decisions, and be a crucial part of Wolves’ attack.

For Forest, signing Cunha would be a significant move. While they’ve enjoyed a strong attacking season with players like Chris Wood, Anthony Elanga, and Callum Hudson-Odoi contributing, they are still looking to add depth to their offensive options. Cunha, who can play both centrally and out wide, would bring versatility and a new dimension to their attack.

Forest’s potential qualification for the Champions League could enhance their chances of securing Cunha, as it would make them a more attractive destination for the Brazilian. At 25, Cunha is at the peak of his career, combining experience with youth, and securing him from a local rival would be a major coup for Forest.
