Miami Dolphins add linebacker depth with two-time Super Bowl champion Willie Gay Jr.

The Miami Dolphins have strengthened their linebacker unit by adding a two-time Super Bowl champion on a one-year contract, as reported by a league insider. While the financial details of the deal remain undisclosed, the experienced linebacker brings a winning pedigree to Miami.

A second-round pick in 2020, he played his first four seasons with Kansas City before spending the 2024 campaign in New Orleans. During his time with the Chiefs, he was an essential part of their three straight Super Bowl appearances, starting all nine playoff games in that stretch, including back-to-back title wins.

Over his career, he has recorded more than 230 combined tackles, five sacks, and four interceptions. However, after signing a one-year deal with New Orleans, he started only eight games in 2024, marking his lowest total since his rookie season. He finished the year with 28 tackles, two sacks, and two fumble recoveries.

In Miami, he is expected to compete for a starting linebacker spot alongside a key defensive acquisition. However, he will have to contend with another returning linebacker who recently signed a two-year deal and earned AFC Defensive Player of the Week honors in 2024. Although primarily an inside linebacker in Kansas City, he played on the outside during his stint in New Orleans.
