Scottie Scheffler Blames LIV Golf for Splitting the Sport
World No.1 Scottie Scheffler did not hold back when addressing the continued division in professional golf, firmly placing the blame on players who left for LIV Golf.
Speaking ahead of his Masters title defense in April, Scheffler acknowledged that he misses competing against former PGA Tour rivals like Jon Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau, and Brooks Koepka. However, he made it clear that those who departed knew the consequences of their decisions.
“I wish some of those guys had stayed, but at the end of the day, they made their choice,” Scheffler said. “If we want to figure out why the game of golf is not back together, go ask those guys.”
Despite the ongoing divide, Scheffler reaffirmed his belief that the PGA Tour remains the pinnacle of professional golf, citing its depth and level of competition.
“I still think the PGA Tour has by far the best players in the world. The depth of our fields and the competition that we have is still hands down the best.”
Scheffler Looking Forward to Rahm Rivalry at The Masters
While he regrets losing regular competition against players like Rahm, Scheffler is eager to renew their rivalry at Augusta National.
“One of the great joys of my career is going up against Jon,” Scheffler said. “We’ve had great battles over the years, especially in the Ryder Cup. I for sure miss playing against him.”
The Masters will be one of the few opportunities for top players from both tours to compete head-to-head, with Scheffler hoping to defend his green jacket against a strong field that includes past LIV Golf defectors.
