Emma Raducanu recently ended her coaching trial with Vladimir Platenik after just 14 days. The world No. 60 had announced earlier this month that the Slovakian coach would be working with her in Indian Wells, but by the time she played her first-round match in Miami, he was no longer part of her team.
Raducanu confirmed that their partnership was not going “in the right direction,” prompting the early split. Despite this, Platenik had only positive things to say about the British player, calling her the fastest learner he had ever worked with.
The two first teamed up a day before Raducanu’s opening match in Indian Wells, where she lost to Moyuka Uchijima. After the match, she admitted they had not yet started any “proper work.” Their time together in Florida lasted about a week, during which Platenik focused on refining her footwork and positioning. He noted that Raducanu adapted quickly and showed significant progress in their training sessions.
Platenik respected her decision to end their collaboration, acknowledging the immense pressure she faces. He wished he had more time to work with her but remained impressed by her performance, particularly in her first-round victory in Miami, where she defeated Sayaka Ishii 6-2, 6-1.
Raducanu is still searching for a permanent coach after ending her 14-month partnership with Nick Cavaday in January. This week, she has been accompanied by longtime mentor Jane O’Donoghue and LTA coach Colin Beecher, though neither is expected to take on a full-time role.
