Clemson Tigers’ Quarterback Admits Schools Tried to Poach Him Following Sophomore Season

Clemson quarterback Cade Klubnik is gearing up for his senior season with heightened expectations, setting the stage for what could be a standout 2025 campaign.

Klubnik has made significant progress since first suiting up for the Tigers. Following a challenging sophomore season in which Clemson failed to secure double-digit wins and Klubnik recorded just 19 touchdown passes, questions arose about his future with the program. He recently revealed on the Pure Athlete Podcast that after the difficult 2023 season, multiple teams reached out with transfer offers.

“So after my sophomore year, sure, I had some teams call up and ask me to come and blah blah blah,” Klubnik stated. “But I’m like, ‘No, I’m staying here.’”

That decision proved to be a turning point.

With the support of head coach Dabo Swinney and offensive coordinator Garrett Riley, Klubnik took a major step forward in 2024. He threw for 3,639 yards, notched 36 touchdowns with just six interceptions, and solidified his status as one of college football’s top quarterbacks. His breakout performance established him as an early Heisman Trophy contender heading into his final collegiate season.

His journey, however, has been anything but smooth. After showing promise in the 2022 Orange Bowl, his struggles in 2023 created doubts. Yet, his dramatic improvement in 2024 was not just about statistics—it highlighted his resilience, confidence, and the faith Clemson’s coaching staff placed in him.

Even after a shaky start to the 2024 season, Klubnik remained focused, gradually building momentum. By the end of the year, he had cemented his role as the leader of Clemson’s rejuvenated offense.

Looking ahead to 2025, Klubnik has the opportunity to lead the Tigers in pursuit of a national championship. With a talented supporting cast, he has the tools to meet, and perhaps surpass, the high expectations set for him.

In an era where the transfer portal frequently reshapes college football, Klubnik’s unwavering commitment to Clemson stands out. His decision to stay and develop within the program reflects both personal growth and a rare sense of loyalty in today’s evolving collegiate landscape.
