Bills’ GM Brandon Beane ‘would never close the door’ on Von Miller reunion

Veteran defensive end Von Miller remains a free agent, leaving the possibility open for a return to the Buffalo Bills at some point. The Bills released Miller earlier this offseason as a salary cap casualty before committing approximately $12.6 million to acquire free-agent pass rusher Joey Bosa.

Miller, who will turn 36 on March 26, has expressed his desire to continue playing for at least one more season, with Buffalo being his preferred destination. However, it remains unclear how much he expects to earn on a new contract. Until he signs elsewhere, speculation will persist regarding a potential reunion with the Bills.

Buffalo’s general manager, Brandon Beane, acknowledged the situation last week, stating that he had a productive conversation with Miller before his release. Beane emphasized that the door remains open for a possible return, whether immediately, later in the offseason, or even during the season itself.

Miller originally signed a six-year, $120 million contract with the Bills in 2022. He made an immediate impact in his first season, registering 8.0 sacks in his first nine-plus games before suffering a torn ACL. His recovery extended into the 2023 season, which ultimately turned out to be a disappointing year for him. However, in 2024, he showed signs of progress, though he had yet to fully regain his pre-injury explosiveness.

Beane reflected on Miller’s time with the team, describing the situation as unfortunate. He praised Miller’s contributions in his first year, noting his ability to deliver clutch sacks in key moments before the injury. Beane acknowledged that Miller’s second year did not go as planned but believed that his performance in 2024 indicated some improvement.

Despite facing a four-game suspension during the 2024 season, Miller finished the year with 6.0 sacks in 13 games. However, his playoff production was limited, recording only two tackles, one quarterback hit, and one fumble recovery over three postseason contests.

Beyond his on-field impact, Miller was also recognized for bringing a championship mentality to the team. Beane highlighted the leadership and experience Miller provided in the locker room, stating that if he does not return, his presence in that regard would certainly be missed.

For now, Miller remains unsigned, and while the Bills have moved forward with their defensive line revamp, the possibility of a reunion is not entirely off the table.
