On March 18, the Boston Bruins recalled top prospect Fabian Lysell under emergency conditions. Head coach Joe Sacco confirmed that Lysell will be given the chance to play during the Bruins’ upcoming five-game road trip, giving fans an opportunity to see the 2021 first-round pick in action.
With Lysell’s recall, the 22-year-old winger now has an important opportunity to prove himself. The Bruins made significant roster changes at the trade deadline, moving key forwards such as Brad Marchand, Trent Frederic, and Justin Brazeau. As a result, there are now open spots in the lineup, and Lysell has a chance to show that he belongs on the NHL roster.
Lysell previously made his NHL debut earlier this season on December 28 against the Columbus Blue Jackets, where he finished the game with a plus-1 rating. Now, he will look to make a stronger offensive impact during his second stint with the team.
The Bruins are in need of all the help they can get as they fight to climb up the wild card standings. If Lysell can make an immediate impact and stand out in his upcoming appearances, it will significantly increase his chances of remaining with the team.
This season, Lysell has played 51 games with the Providence Bruins, scoring 11 goals, totaling 34 points, recording 38 penalty minutes, and maintaining a plus-11 rating. His performance with Boston in the coming games will be closely watched to see how he fares at the NHL level.
