The Boston Bruins experienced one of their most disappointing losses of the season on March 15, as they were defeated 6-2 by the Tampa Bay Lightning. In a particularly dismal second period, the Bruins failed to record a single shot on goal, finishing the game with just 12 shots overall.
After the game, forward Elias Lindholm spoke candidly about the team’s poor performance. “Not really sure what happened in the second there. It was embarrassing,” Lindholm remarked. “The competitive level was nowhere to be found. Yeah, unacceptable overall, and it’s frustrating for sure.”
Lindholm also acknowledged the frustration of the fans at TD Garden, who booed the team off the ice during the second period. “Yeah, you always want to play hard at home,” he said. “The fans certainly pay a lot of money to come here and watch us play. Obviously, they have every right to boo when the effort is like that… Tonight, [our play] was unacceptable, and we deserved to get booed. The second period was the worst I’ve seen us play this year.”
Lindholm’s assessment of the game was hard to argue with, especially given how rare it is for an NHL team to go an entire period without recording a shot on goal. Despite the team’s overall poor performance, Lindholm did manage to contribute offensively, scoring a goal and adding an assist. His efforts extended his point streak to three games, though it wasn’t enough to prevent the tough loss.
