Man Utd now have to sign £55m wonderkid for Amorim, he’s better than Geovany – opinion
Manchester United should explore the possibility of signing Southampton’s highly-rated young talent, Tyler Dibling, following a recent setback in their transfer plans.
The club is expected to be active in the upcoming transfer window, with a new right wing-back likely to be a priority. Initially, manager Ruben Amorim was eager to bring in Sporting CP’s promising youngster, Geovany Quenda, but those plans were disrupted when Chelsea swooped in and secured an agreement to sign the 17-year-old next year.
With that option off the table, United must quickly shift focus and identify an alternative. Dibling presents an exciting opportunity, as he has impressed despite Southampton’s struggles in the Premier League this season.
The young talent has contributed six goals this campaign while demonstrating versatility by playing as a right winger, attacking midfielder, and striker. His left-footed ability makes him a strong candidate for a right wing-back role, particularly given his defensive contributions.
This season, Dibling has shown a willingness to track back effectively, averaging 4.3 duels won and two recoveries per game. He has also made at least one successful tackle per match, though his six yellow cards indicate his aggressive approach to defending. Offensively, he has averaged 1.5 dribbles per game, suggesting he can provide an attacking threat from wide positions.
Given his experience in the English top flight, Dibling may actually be a better long-term investment than Quenda. While Southampton were previously hesitant to sell him for anything less than £55 million, clubs had already shown a willingness to offer around £40 million. With relegation looming, the club may be more open to negotiating a transfer fee.
United should take advantage of this situation and make a move for Dibling, ensuring they strengthen the squad despite missing out on their original target.
