After Heartbreaking Indian Wells Exit, Coco Gauff’s Family Steps In for the Ultimate Reset

Coco Gauff’s mother, Candi Gauff, has always been a pillar of support for her daughter, both on and off the tennis court. She knows how to uplift Coco’s spirits during tough times. Earlier this year, after Gauff’s early exit from the 2025 Qatar Open, the mother-daughter duo spent Valentine’s Day together, enjoying a special dinner. Coco shared a video of their meal, captioning it, “V-day dinner with my mom @candigauff,” while Candi also posted about the outing, writing, “Happy Valentine’s Day from Doha, Qatar.” The two were later seen together at the 2025 Oscars, demonstrating once again that Coco’s family is always by her side, no matter the circumstances.

Recently, Gauff faced another setback with her unexpected exit from the 2025 Indian Wells Open. However, her family ensured that this did not overshadow her 21st birthday celebrations. Her mother, who has been her constant travel companion, was there to celebrate with her. Whether supporting Coco from the stands during matches or accompanying her on off-court activities, Candi is deeply involved in her daughter’s journey. In a past interview, Coco highlighted the significance of her mother’s presence, saying, “Both my parents are constant support all the time. My mom, it’s just a motherly thing. There’s nothing like a mother-daughter relationship. Especially in swings like Asia where it maybe is more isolated than usual, we just play Uno a lot.”

Reflecting on Coco’s early days, Candi once shared how she initially took an active role in Coco’s training. She used to observe her daughter’s practice sessions, take notes, and relay important information to Coco’s father, Corey Gauff. However, as Coco grew older, she became less receptive to coaching from her mother. Realizing this, Candi stepped back from a coaching role and instead focused on being a supportive mother. Coco has often expressed gratitude for her mother’s presence on tour, emphasizing how Candi takes care of small but important details, such as reminding her to pack essentials like headphones, spare shoes, and clothes. “It’s great to have my mom. She’s my biggest fan for sure. Having one or both of my parents, I think, always makes the tournament easier,” Coco once said.

Coco Gauff celebrated her 21st birthday on March 13, and once again, her “favorite travel buddy” was by her side. The celebration included a family dinner, with her siblings, Codey and Cameron, also joining in. Candi shared a heartwarming picture of the three siblings smiling together, captioning it with their Instagram handles and heart emojis.

She has been actively involved in their lives and frequently shares posts celebrating their achievements. Earlier this year, Coco’s younger brother, Codey, reached a major milestone by committing to the University of Missouri’s NCAA Division 1 baseball team. He was also invited to participate in the DREAM series, an event hosted by MLB and USA Baseball. Candi proudly acknowledged his achievement by sharing an Instagram story with a clapping emoji, reinforcing the close-knit bond within the Gauff family.

Coco has also recognized her mother’s unwavering support on several occasions. On International Women’s Day, she paid tribute to Candi, stating, “I’ll give it (a shoutout on International Women’s Day) for sure to my mom. She’s been rocking with me. I don’t know where she went, but she’s been rocking with me the past few weeks.” This deep mother-daughter connection has been evident throughout Coco’s career, including her breakthrough moment at Wimbledon in 2019, when she became the youngest player to win a singles match at the tournament since 1991 by defeating Venus Williams. Reflecting on that match, Candi recalled how nerve-wracking it was but expressed pride in her daughter’s success.
