Sophie Cunningham Warns 12 WNBA Teams With Strong Caitlin Clark Statement

The Indiana Fever have been actively working to strengthen both their frontcourt and backcourt ahead of the upcoming WNBA season. Their efforts have resulted in a deeper and more versatile roster, which includes the addition of veteran guard Sophie Cunningham. Cunningham, formerly of the Phoenix Mercury, is thrilled about the opportunity to team up with rookie sensation Caitlin Clark.

In a recent interview, Cunningham did not hold back her excitement, even making a pop culture reference to express her enthusiasm. “I will be her Sabrina Carpenter any day, to her Taylor Swift. Like, I am so excited for this,” she said. Her passion for the game and team chemistry is evident, and she made it clear that she is ready to do whatever it takes to support Clark.

“She has changed our game in the best possible way… I want her to go do her thing, and anything she needs from me, I’m gonna be here… I stick up for my teammates. I stick up for myself,” Cunningham stated, emphasizing her commitment to being a strong and reliable teammate.

Cunningham, who was drafted 13th overall in the second round, brings six seasons of WNBA experience to the Fever. In her last season with the Mercury, she averaged 8.9 points per game and shot 37.8% from three-point range. Her ability to contribute offensively and her veteran presence make her a valuable asset to the Fever’s backcourt. She will provide depth off the bench and offer crucial support for both Clark and Kelsey Mitchell when needed.

The Fever have made several key offseason moves in an effort to become serious playoff contenders. Along with signing Cunningham, they strengthened their frontcourt by acquiring DeWanna Bonner and Natasha Howard, two players with championship experience. The team also added Sydney Colson to their backcourt, further solidifying their roster.

Many analysts have been impressed with the Fever’s aggressive approach to building a competitive squad. ESPN’s Michael Voepel even gave the team an “A” for their offseason moves.

Clark, one of the biggest names in college basketball before making the jump to the WNBA, is also pleased with the Fever’s roster improvements. Speaking about the team’s direction, she said, “I’m really excited. I think Kelly [Krauskopf] and Amber [Cox] have done a really good job of finding pieces that fit. It makes me excited about the future.”

With Clark’s star power, Cunningham’s enthusiasm, and the additions of experienced players, the Fever look poised for a strong season. Their revamped lineup could make them a serious threat in the WNBA, and fans will be watching closely to see how the team performs. After their last championship win in 2012, Indiana is eager to reclaim the title, and this season could be their best chance in years.
