Francisco Lindor’s Focus Shifts to Family as Mets Prepare for the Season
The New York Mets are entering what could be one of their most thrilling seasons, with star players like Juan Soto, Pete Alonso, and Francisco Lindor leading the charge. The team is considered a strong contender for the championship, and excitement is building as Opening Day approaches.
However, while the team’s focus is on baseball, Francisco Lindor has something far more personal on his mind—his growing family. The 31-year-old shortstop and his wife, Katia Reguero, are expecting their third child, a son, with an expected due date of April 9. With the birth so close, Lindor is making it clear that if the moment comes early, baseball will take a backseat to his family responsibilities.
Lindor’s Commitment to His Wife and Growing Family
This isn’t Lindor’s first time experiencing fatherhood. He and Katia are already parents to two daughters, Kalina Zoe and Amapola Chloe. However, this pregnancy has been especially challenging for Katia, and Lindor has been by her side every step of the way. Reflecting on his priorities, Lindor stated, “I am trying to see my baby boy be born soon. Once that happens, my mind will shift to Opening Day.”
Katia also shared her struggles during the Mets’ 2024 postseason run, revealing that she battled severe nausea while the team advanced to the NLCS against the Dodgers. “Women can—and often do—mask, overcome, and endure intense discomfort, sometimes so graciously that even those in the medical field don’t take our pain and symptoms seriously,” she said. Her words highlight the silent struggles many women face, making Lindor’s unwavering support even more meaningful.
The Impact of Fatherhood on Lindor
In a recent episode of Katia’s podcast, The Un-a-Parent, Lindor spoke about how fatherhood has changed him. He expressed gratitude for having daughters first, as it allowed him to mature before welcoming a son. “Thank god, I had girls. So now, if a boy comes along, I know what it’s like to be a dad because if I had a boy from the beginning, I would have been all over him, attacking, attacking. I like to know that, if I’m going to have a son, it’s going to be in my thirties, where I’m much more mature.”
Lindor is aware of the expectations that come with being the son of a baseball superstar. Katia addressed this directly, asking if he thought their son would feel pressure to follow in his father’s footsteps, even if he chose a different sport. Lindor acknowledged that comparisons are inevitable but believes his son’s personality will determine how he handles them. “If he can handle the pressure, then we won’t have to worry. If not, we’ll find ways to support him.”
A Decision That Sparks Debate
Lindor’s willingness to put family first has sparked discussion among fans. Should a star player step away from Opening Day for the birth of a child, or should their commitment to the game come first? The Mets’ season opener is a crucial moment, but for Lindor, nothing is more important than being present for his wife and newborn son.
His decision highlights an important truth—professional athletes, despite the spotlight, are human beings with families and responsibilities beyond the game. While Mets fans are eager for their team to make a championship run, they may have to accept that Lindor’s biggest priority at the moment isn’t baseball—it’s family.
