Miami’s star quarterback has emerged as the frontrunner in the 2025 NFL Draft, but an NFL scout has pointed out areas that need improvement. Standing at 6-foot-2 and 219 pounds, he earned ACC Player of the Year honors and was a Heisman finalist after leading his team to a 10-3 season.
Originally an unranked recruit, he transferred from smaller programs before making a name for himself at the national level. He led the country in touchdown passes (39) and was second in passing yards (4,313) while throwing seven interceptions. By the end of his collegiate career, he had set the all-time record for career touchdown passes (178).
Despite his success, some scouts have concerns about his playing style. While his ability to create explosive plays often leads to points, it can also result in turnovers. An AFC area scout described his tendency for “reckless plays” as something that may not be easy to correct. The scout noted that his decision-making sometimes leaves teams wondering what he was thinking in certain moments.
ESPN’s analysis highlighted his struggles with inaccuracy at times, including a costly pick-six against one opponent and inconsistent play that contributed to a key loss during the season. However, he remains the overwhelming favorite to be selected first overall, with betting odds heavily in his favor over other quarterback prospects.
While he did not participate in combine workouts, he is set to showcase his skills in front of NFL personnel at his team’s Pro Day on March 24. The 2025 NFL Draft is scheduled to take place from April 24-26 in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
