Disqualify Him’: PGA Tour Pro Under Fire After Controversial Earbuds and Poor Shot Spark Fury Among Golf Fans

What was going through Cameron Young’s mind? Getting the chance to compete at the Arnold Palmer Invitational is a dream for many, but it comes with its challenges. The demanding conditions at Bay Hill Golf Course put even elite players like Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy on high alert. Yet, Cameron Young appeared far more relaxed as he stepped up for his first tee shot at the prestigious Signature event.

On the opening par-4 hole, Young stood at the tee with his AirPods still in, something rarely seen at a tournament of this caliber. His casual approach backfired almost immediately. His tee shot went out of bounds, forcing him to take a penalty and re-tee. It took him three more strokes to reach the green and two putts to finish the hole, resulting in a triple bogey — 3 over par right out of the gate.

The rough start drew attention online, with NUCLR GOLF sharing the footage and ridiculing Young’s approach. Their post highlighted his disastrous opening and included a visual showing all seven strokes on the hole.

The reaction from fans was swift and harsh. Many were outraged by Young’s seemingly laid-back attitude at such a respected event, calling for his disqualification. Comments ranged from “He should be DQed” to “Isn’t that a DQ?”, with some questioning the PGA Tour’s lack of action over Young’s behavior.

There were also sarcastic takes from some fans, with one saying, “Triple bogey could have been worse I guess,” implying they expected an even worse score. Others humorously blamed LIV Golf’s influence for Young’s casual demeanor, referencing the breakaway league’s relaxed dress code and approach to the game.

Some fans also dragged Max Homa into the conversation, noting his struggles in the first round, including four consecutive bogeys. One user bluntly stated, “Him and Homa need to go,” showing frustration with both players.

Doubts about Young’s potential were also raised. A fan quipped, “If you’re still betting on Cam Young to win a PGA event, please call the hotline. You’ve lost your mojo.” Others jokingly blamed Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, saying Young’s involvement in the TGL (a new virtual golf league) may have negatively impacted his game.

As debate continues, fans are left wondering whether Young’s actions warrant official consequences — or if this was simply a case of poor judgment and a bad start.
