Buffalo Bills wide receiver Khalil Shakir has made it clear that even after signing a lucrative new contract, his lifestyle isn’t about to change drastically. Despite securing a massive $60 million deal with the Bills, Shakir has no plans to adopt the flashy spending habits often associated with NFL stars.
One of the most notable ways Shakir is sticking to his down-to-earth approach is through his choice of vehicle. While many of his peers drive luxury cars or high-performance sports vehicles, Shakir remains loyal to his modest Subaru. The car, which he has owned since 2021, has served him well, and even though he’s open to buying something new, he isn’t planning to part ways with it anytime soon.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Shakir openly acknowledged the teasing he gets from teammates over his car. “I drive a Subaru,” he said. “The guys are always making fun of me for what I drive. Curtis [Samuel] was saying, ‘Congrats man, now you can finally get yourself a new car.'”

Shakir also shared insight into his general attitude towards money, which stands out in a league where extravagant spending is often the norm. “I’m not really someone who splurges a lot,” Shakir explained. “That’s just not my personality. I might get another car, but it won’t be anything too wild. Maybe I’ll drive something different to work just to mess with Curtis a little, so he stops with the jokes.”
Despite the jokes, Shakir still has a soft spot for his Subaru. “It’s got tinted windows, just a regular white Subaru with some tint,” he said. “I think it looks pretty cool — I love it.”
Shakir’s rise with the Bills has been steady since the team selected him in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft. In the 2024 season, he emerged as a key playmaker, leading Buffalo with 821 receiving yards and four touchdowns. His production came from 76 catches on 100 targets, highlighting his reliability in the offense.
He was also vital to the team’s postseason success, catching 18 passes for 174 yards and helping the Bills reach the AFC Championship Game.
By awarding him this new extension, Buffalo’s front office has made it clear they view Shakir as a critical part of the team’s future, both on and off the field.
