Tears” – Sha’Carri Richardson makes feelings known on fan’s special gesture for Black History Month

Sha’Carri Richardson Brought to Tears by Young Fan’s Heartfelt Tribute During Black History Month

Sha’Carri Richardson, the reigning 100m world champion and 2024 Olympic silver medalist, was moved to tears after witnessing a special gesture from a young fan in celebration of Black History Month.

On Friday, a third-grade student dressed up as Richardson and confidently narrated her achievements, even pronouncing her name correctly — something the sprinter deeply appreciated. Sharing the moment on her Instagram story, Richardson wrote:

“She said my name right too. Tears because there’s no better feeling than this right here.”

It’s been a rollercoaster year for Richardson, who clinched gold in the 4x100m relay at the Paris Olympics. Despite being the favorite for the 100m title, she faced issues with her block starts and ultimately finished with a silver, behind St. Lucia’s Julien Alfred.

Richardson would go on to lose to Alfred again at the Diamond League Finals, but the American star has her sights set on redemption at the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo, scheduled for September 13-21.

Richardson also made headlines off the track during a celebrity flag football game in New Orleans, where popular streamer IShowSpeed (real name: Darren Watkins Jr.) challenged her to a race. However, before they could square off, Richardson made sure to correct him when he mispronounced her name.

“It’s Sha-Carrie,” she gently reminded him.

Richardson then added a playful condition: before they race, IShowSpeed would have to train like a sprinter for a day at her camp.

“Before we race, I got to teach you how to be a sprinter first… You do my entire workout, and after that, we can set something up.”

IShowSpeed, known for his infectious personality and quick feet, previously lost a 50-meter race to Olympic champion Noah Lyles, but some believe he might stand a better chance if the distance was even shorter.
