Emeka Egbuka Opens Up About Possible Reunion with CJ Stroud, Formal Meeting with Texans at NFL Combine
The 2021 Ohio State Buckeyes wide receiver room is widely regarded as one of the most talented in college football history, featuring future NFL stars like Garrett Wilson, Chris Olave, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Marvin Harrison Jr., and Emeka Egbuka. Despite sharing targets with such an elite group, Egbuka carved out an impressive collegiate career, tallying 205 receptions, 2,868 yards, and 24 touchdowns as a Buckeye.
Now preparing for the 2025 NFL Draft, Egbuka met with the media at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine on Friday, where he revealed details about a formal meeting with the Houston Texans. Naturally, the conversation turned to his close connection with Texans star quarterback CJ Stroud, his former Ohio State teammate.

“I had a great meeting with the Texans,” Egbuka said. “CJ and I have a deep relationship — catching passes from him and having that 1,000-yard season together was special. Seeing what he’s doing in the NFL, with his talent and his faith, makes me so proud as his friend.”
Egbuka and Stroud spent two seasons together in Columbus, and it appears the Texans are at least exploring the idea of reuniting the two. With Stefon Diggs no longer in Houston, and Tank Dell’s durability concerns, the Texans are expected to reshape their wide receiver room this offseason. Egbuka could offer a dependable, high-floor option to pair with Nico Collins, adding versatility and familiarity for Stroud.
Though Egbuka might not be as flashy as some of his former teammates, his reliability and polished skill set have him projected as a high-end WR2 at the NFL level — exactly the kind of target who could thrive alongside CJ Stroud in Houston.
