Rising PGA Tour Star Takes Action To Rescue Golf Course Facing Serious Closure Threat

Since the start of the 2025 golf season, the community has rallied to support various charitable causes. The Sentry Tournament of Champions, for instance, contributed $1 million to the Maui community. Similarly, the Genesis Invitational’s “Birdies for Good” initiative pledged $300 for each birdie and $10,000 for every eagle made during the event.

Beyond tournament-level contributions, individual players have also stepped up. Justin Thomas donated $50,000 to wildfire relief efforts, and both he and Rickie Fowler enhanced the experience of 16-year-old shark attack survivor Lulu Gribbin. In a community-focused effort, Scottish golfer Robert MacIntyre has taken action to support local golf courses facing closure.

Dalmuir Municipal Golf Course in Clydebank, previously saved from closure with support from Scotland footballer John McGinn, is once again under threat due to financial pressures faced by West Dunbartonshire Council. A petition on Change.org has garnered significant support to keep the course open. MacIntyre has expressed his willingness to assist, suggesting a fundraising event to support the course.

MacIntyre’s commitment to charitable causes is well-documented. During the 2023 PGA Championship, he carried a special bag featuring the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation logo, pledging donations for every birdie and eagle he made. This initiative was in honor of former Scotland rugby star Doddie Weir and aimed to raise funds for Motor Neurone Disease research. MacIntyre stated, “Like everyone, I was inspired with the way that Doddie dealt with MND… So, if we can raise some money this week to help his Foundation continue his legacy, then that is something I will be very proud of.”

His dedication to philanthropy extends beyond high-profile events. MacIntyre has plans to establish a charitable foundation in his hometown of Oban, reflecting his deep-rooted commitment to giving back to his community.

The collective efforts of tournaments and players like MacIntyre highlight the golf community’s ongoing dedication to supporting charitable causes and local communities.
