Lexi Thompson is back on the greens, swinging her clubs again—but just as quickly as she returned, she’s stepping away once more. If this feels familiar, you’re not alone.
Back in May 2024, the 11-time LPGA winner announced she was retiring from full-time golf, citing mental health struggles. However, she gave fans hope when she teed up at the Founders Cup, posting a solid 2-under 69. Ranked No. 55 in the Rolex Rankings, she’s still eligible to compete in major tournaments like the Chevron Championship and the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, with a potential shot at the U.S. Women’s Open.
Thompson reassured fans that her retirement was only from full-time play, and she’s made select appearances, including at the Morgan & Friends golf tournament at St. Andrews Country Club. Excitement grew when she confirmed plans to compete in at least two LPGA majors in 2025. But now, it feels like a game of back and forth—one moment, she’s competing, the next, she’s stepping away. Her latest Instagram post only added to the uncertainty:
“Thank you to the sponsors, volunteers, and fans this week for making it possible! Most of all, thank you to the Founders who paved the way for all girls out there to follow their dream in the game of golf. It’s because of them that any of this is possible. A solid week back with a T13 finish, time to celebrate big 30 tomorrow and have some weeks off!”
The words “have some weeks off” left fans disappointed, but Thompson has a lot on her plate. Aside from her golf career, she’s also preparing for her wedding.
Thompson is set to marry her longtime boyfriend, Max Provost, a Clinical Sales Representative at Intuitive Surgical. The couple has kept their relationship low-profile, but Provost has been seen supporting her, even caddying for her on occasion. The engagement took place on a picturesque New Year’s trip to Whistler, where she announced on January 1st, “The best part of my trip to Whistler … I said YES to my forever and always 1.1.25.”
Thompson has always been open about her desire to settle down, stating, “I hope to have a family one day. And just enjoy every experience of that and be there for every single moment. That’s my No. 1 priority.”
As she juggles wedding plans, golf, and the next chapter of her life, Thompson’s future remains bright, whether she’s on the course or walking down the aisle.
