Tiger Woods details ‘difficult’ decision to move Genesis to Torrey Pines

Tiger Woods acknowledged that relocating The Genesis Invitational to Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego was a challenging decision due to the devastating wildfires in California. The tournament was originally scheduled to take place at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, a heavily impacted area in Los Angeles. The event, hosted by Woods and his foundation, was set to run from February 13 to 16.

Following discussions with the owners of Riviera Country Club, Woods described the decision-making process as difficult. He explained that the course was simply not in a condition to host the tournament. Wanting to keep the event on the West Coast, organizers considered several alternative locations, including Pebble Beach, Phoenix, Las Vegas, San Diego, and Palm Springs.

Ultimately, the decision was influenced by the need to be mindful of those affected by the wildfires. Woods shared these insights after his Jupiter Links Golf Club team secured a 4-3 overtime victory against Rory McIlroy’s Boston Common Golf squad during a TGL match.
