Trevor Lawrence makes feelings known about future concussions and injury risks

Trevor Lawrence and the Jacksonville Jaguars endured a disappointing 2024 NFL season, finishing with a 4-13 record. The season took a turn for the worse when Lawrence suffered a concussion during the team’s Week 13 game against the Houston Texans. As a result, the Jaguars turned to backup quarterback Mac Jones for the final five games of the season.

This marked the second consecutive season in which Lawrence dealt with a concussion. In 2023, he was placed in the NFL’s concussion protocol after a Week 15 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Despite the serious nature of multiple concussions, Lawrence expressed little concern about the long-term effects during a recent press conference. He described the experience of reviewing his concussion incidents as “weird” but stated that he wasn’t necessarily worried about his future health.

Lawrence’s injury history has been notable, especially in the last two seasons. During his first two years in the NFL, he played every regular season and playoff game without any major issues. However, injuries began to take a toll starting in 2023. In Week 13 of that season, he sustained an ankle injury against the Cincinnati Bengals after stepping on a teammate’s foot. Although he returned to finish the game and didn’t miss any subsequent matches, his form declined, and the Jaguars lost four of their next five games.

Two weeks later, he suffered a concussion in a game against the Ravens but was cleared to play before the team’s Week 16 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In that game, Lawrence sustained a shoulder injury, causing him to miss his first game since joining the NFL.

In the 2024 season, Lawrence re-injured the same shoulder during a Week 9 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, sidelining him for two games. Upon his return, his season ended abruptly in Week 13 due to a season-ending concussion caused by a late hit from Texans defender Azeez Al-Shaair.

The Jaguars are now facing serious concerns about their star quarterback’s durability and long-term health. Over the last two seasons, Lawrence’s growing list of injuries highlights the need for the team to better protect him on the field. Without improvements in this area, the risk of him missing more games in the future rema

ins high.
