‘I can see it happening’- Justin Gatlin on potential Team USA women’s 4x100m relay goup that could come to fruition

American sprinting legend Justin Gatlin has voiced his excitement over the potential formation of a Team USA women’s 4x100m relay team comprising Sha’Carri Richardson, Gabby Thomas, Twanisha Terry, and McKenzie Long. The idea was discussed on the “Ready Set Go” podcast, where McKenzie Long, a standout sprinter and guest on the episode, was asked to assemble her dream relay team.

Gatlin and his co-host Rodney Greene introduced the concept during a lighthearted segment, challenging Long to name her ideal teammates, with the condition that she would automatically be on the team. Although initially caught off guard, Long eventually made her picks: Twanisha Terry as the lead-off runner, herself in the second leg, Gabby Thomas handling the third leg, and Sha’Carri Richardson anchoring.

Gatlin expressed admiration for her selection, stating that he could envision this lineup materializing in the near future. He noted the team’s potential to dominate the track with Richardson’s finishing prowess, Terry’s consistency, Thomas’s fluid baton transitions, and Long’s raw speed.

McKenzie Long’s inclusion in such a discussion underscores her impressive track record. A three-time NCAA champion, she earned a spot on Team USA for the 200m at the 2024 Paris Olympics, finishing third at the U.S. Olympic Trials behind Gabby Thomas and Brittany Brown. In Paris, Long advanced to the 200m final, where she placed seventh. Meanwhile, her potential relay teammates Richardson, Thomas, and Terry joined Melissa Jefferson to secure gold in the 4x100m relay with a time of 41.78 seconds, underscoring Team USA’s sprinting prowess.

While this lineup remains hypothetical, the prospect of combining these athletes has sparked excitement. Gatlin emphasized that this idea is more than just speculation, suggesting it could become a formidable r

eality.
