Michigan Football misses on No. 1 portal cornerback, who commits to Big Ten school

Michigan’s search for defensive back reinforcements continues after missing out on two key targets on Tuesday.

The Wolverines pursued former Arizona cornerback Tacario Davis, who was ranked as the top cornerback in the transfer portal. However, Davis chose to commit to Washington, reuniting with his former Arizona head coach, Jedd Fisch, who originally recruited him as part of the Wildcats’ 2022 recruiting class. Michigan’s efforts to secure Davis fell short due to his strong ties to Washington’s coaching staff.

Earlier the same day, another Michigan target, former Pitt cornerback Ryland Gandy, announced his commitment to Indiana. This marked another missed opportunity for the Wolverines as Gandy chose a fellow Big Ten school despite Michigan showing significant interest.

Despite these setbacks, Michigan has been active in the transfer portal this offseason, bringing in 10 players across multiple positions. The additions include defensive backs TJ and Tevis Metcalf from Arkansas, defensive linemen Damon Payne from Alabama and Tre Williams from Clemson, offensive linemen Brady Norton from Cal Poly and Lawrence Hattar from Ferris State, quarterback Mikey Keene from Fresno State, running back Justice Haynes from Alabama, linebacker Troy Bowles from Georgia, and wide receiver Donaven McCulley from Indiana.
