Michigan football misses out on massive OT from transfer portal to unlikely school

Michigan secured a significant addition from the transfer portal on Saturday with the commitment of Clemson defensive tackle Tre Williams. However, the Wolverines also experienced setbacks as two players they were heavily pursuing decided to go elsewhere.

One of the losses was UConn wide receiver Skyler Bell, who announced his decision to remain with the Huskies instead of transferring to Michigan. Shortly after Bell’s announcement, Washington State offensive tackle Fa’alili Fa’amoe revealed that he would be signing with Wake Forest. The decision was influenced by Wake Forest’s hiring of Jared Kaster, Fa’amoe’s former offensive line coach, which played a pivotal role in bringing him to the program.

Michigan had been competing with LSU and Nebraska to land Fa’amoe, a highly sought-after 6-foot-5, 316-pound offensive lineman. Ranked as the No. 23 overall prospect in the transfer portal and the No. 2 offensive tackle, Fa’amoe opted for Wake Forest in what turned out to be a dramatic recruiting battle. He has one year of eligibility remaining.

Despite these losses, Michigan did manage to bolster its offensive line with the addition of FCS Cal Poly lineman Brady Norton. However, after some recent attrition on the offensive line, the Wolverines are still actively searching for more talent to strengthen their roster.
