Chelsea forward Pedro Neto has described Cristiano Ronaldo as the ultimate role model. Neto, 24, has shared the pitch with Ronaldo 10 times while representing Portugal, winning nine of those matches and losing just once.
Ronaldo, a five-time Ballon d’Or winner, has inspired countless players to take up football with his remarkable career. Despite nearing the end of his playing days, the Portuguese forward continues to perform at an elite level. He has made 216 appearances for Portugal, scoring 135 goals and providing 45 assists. Currently playing for Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr, the 39-year-old holds the record for the most goals in men’s football history.
In an interview on the “1 Para 1” podcast, Neto shared how Ronaldo influenced him during his youth. Reflecting on Ronaldo’s mentality and work ethic, Neto said, “When I was a kid, I watched his interviews with my parents and sisters. The way he speaks and believes in being the best, and the idea that you must believe in yourself because, if you don’t, no one else will—this inspired me. His mindset and work ethic are a model to follow, the ultimate model.”
Neto, who transferred from Wolverhampton Wanderers to Chelsea last summer for a reported fee of £54 million, has made an impact at his new club, registering three goals and five assists in 21 appearances this season.
Regarding Ronaldo’s career, the forward faced Chelsea 17 times during his stint at Manchester United, which began in 2003 following his transfer from Sporting CP. His debut against Chelsea ended in a 1-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge during the 2003-04 season. Ronaldo earned his first victory over Chelsea in the 2005-06 Premier League season, assisting Darren Fletcher in a 1-0 win at Old Trafford.
In total, Ronaldo scored two goals and provided two assists in 17 appearances against Chelsea, with five wins, six losses, and six draws. Notably, one of his goals came in the 2007-08 UEFA Champions League final, where he scored the opening goal.
