Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders received gifts from Julian Lewis, a five-star recruit and potential successor, after completing his final season with the Buffaloes. Sanders shared an image on his Instagram story on Thursday night, thanking Lewis for the presents.
Lewis, recognized as the 2024 Gatorade Georgia Football Player of the Year, committed to Colorado in November after decommitting from USC. The high school quarterback from Carrollton expressed his excitement about playing under Colorado head coach Deion Sanders, also known as “Coach Prime,” during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show.
Lewis highlighted the importance of following in Shedeur Sanders’ footsteps and contributing to the program’s growth. “It’s definitely a blessing getting put into this position coming after him and his dad,” he said. Lewis plans to enroll at Colorado early in January to adjust to his new environment in Boulder and prepare for the upcoming season.
Lewis also praised Coach Prime for fostering a competitive environment. “Coach Prime’s always said the best man’s gonna play,” Lewis stated. “That’s really what I wanted, to come in, compete, and start as a freshman. I wouldn’t have much fun sitting on the bench.”
With Shedeur Sanders expected to declare for the 2025 NFL Draft, Lewis is poised to take over as Colorado’s starting quarterback next season.
Shedeur Sanders concluded the 2024 season with remarkable statistics, leading Colorado to a 9-4 record. He threw for 4,134 yards, 37 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions, along with four rushing touchdowns. His performance earned him the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year award and the 2024 Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award.
As Sanders prepares for the NFL, many analysts consider him a top-10 draft prospect. His future team could greatly benefit from his leadership and skills as a q
uarterback.
