Arizona State running back Cam Skattebo gained significant attention during the bowl season, particularly for his standout performance in the Peach Bowl against Texas. Despite Arizona State’s 39-31 loss, Skattebo was a key figure in the game, amassing 242 total yards, including 143 rushing yards, and scoring two touchdowns. He also showcased his versatility with a 42-yard touchdown pass.
Known for his physical running style, Skattebo was a constant challenge for the Texas defense. In an interview on the “Dan Patrick Show,” he discussed his influences, noting that while he has his own unique style, he takes inspiration from various NFL players. He mentioned Christian McCaffrey for his dual-threat abilities, Marshawn Lynch for his physicality, Mark Ingram for his mentorship and influence, and Le’Veon Bell for his patience and vision in the game.
Standing at 5-foot-11 and 215 pounds, Skattebo is a slightly larger version of McCaffrey, though his power running style aligns more closely with Lynch. He is not only a powerful runner but also a versatile player, combining physicality with adaptability.
After spending two seasons at Sacramento State, Skattebo transferred to Arizona State in 2023 and had a breakout season. He recorded 1,711 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns, while also contributing as a receiver with 45 receptions for 605 yards and three touchdowns. His performance earned him a fifth-place finish in the Heisman Trophy voting.
Looking ahead to the 2025 NFL Draft, Skattebo is expected to declare as a senior. While his Peach Bowl performance may have elevated his draft stock, he is currently ranked ninth among running backs and 97th overall on ESPN’s prospect board. The 2025 running back class features standout players like Ashton Jeanty (Boise State), Omarion Hampton (North Carolina), Quinshon Judkins (Ohio State), Nicholas Singleton (Penn State), and Kaleb Johnson (Iowa).
Although Skattebo’s size is not typical for a physical three-down NFL running back, his explosiveness and versatility could make him an appealing option for teams. His draft position will likely be influenced by his performances at the NFL Combine, pro days, and throughout the scouting process in the comin
g months.
