Australian Open 2025 men’s singles: Top 8 seeds confirmed ft. Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner

Jannik Sinner Leads 2025 Australian Open Men’s Singles Seedings

The 2025 Australian Open Men’s Singles seedings place Jannik Sinner at the top, closely followed by Alexander Zverev, Carlos Alcaraz, and Novak Djokovic. Sinner, the defending champion, enters as the No. 1 seed, building on a career-best 2024 season that included two Grand Slam victories. However, his achievements were overshadowed by controversies, including a doping scandal and subsequent sanctions. Sinner will aim to defend his crown and solidify his position as the tournament’s top contender.

Alexander Zverev is seeded second after an exceptional 2024 season, where he finished as the French Open runner-up and achieved a career-high ATP ranking of No. 2. The German will strive to surpass his semifinal appearance from the previous Australian Open.

Carlos Alcaraz, the reigning champion of Roland Garros and Wimbledon, is seeded third. The 21-year-old Spaniard, who reached the Australian Open quarterfinals in 2024, is determined to capture the only Major missing from his collection and complete a career Grand Slam.

American Taylor Fritz, seeded fourth, comes into the tournament following a strong 2024 season capped by a runner-up finish at the US Open, where he was defeated by Sinner. Daniil Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, is seeded fifth and will be looking to add a second Major to his record.

Casper Ruud, enjoying his best Australian Open seeding at sixth, hopes to improve on his previous best finish of a fourth-round exit. The Norwegian will aim to make a significant impact at this year’s event.

Novak Djokovic, the seventh seed and record-holder for most Grand Slam titles in the Open Era, will pursue his 11th Australian Open title. Djokovic, who is also the reigning Olympic champion, remains a strong contender despite a lower seeding than usual. Alex De Minaur rounds out the top eight seeds, representing a rising force in men’s tennis.

The tournament seedings were finalized after Andrey Rublev’s loss to Fabian Marozsan in the Hong Kong Open, which resulted in Rublev dropping to ninth in the ATP rankings.

Carlos Alcaraz’s Bid for History

Carlos Alcaraz stands on the brink of history as he seeks to become the youngest male player to complete a career Grand Slam. Having won the French Open in 2024, the Spaniard only needs the Australian Open to achieve this milestone.

The record for the youngest man to complete the feat is held by Don Budge, who achieved it in 1938 at 22 years and 11 months. In the Open Era, Rafael Nadal completed the career Grand Slam at 24 years and three months.

Alcaraz, currently 21, has the potential to break this record even if he does not win the Australian Open this year. Should he secure the title by 2026, he would still achieve the feat at 22 years and eight months, surpassing b

oth Budge and Nadal.
