Coco Gauff, the current world number three in women’s tennis, appears to have taken a unique approach to the New Year. Unlike many other WTA stars, she has decided to forgo New Year resolutions for 2025. Gauff is currently leading Team USA in the United Cup 2025 alongside Taylor Fritz. The dynamic duo has delivered remarkable performances, securing victories against Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime and Leylah Fernandez, as well as Croatia’s Petra Marcinko and Ivan Dodig, to propel Team USA into the quarterfinals.
So far, Gauff has been in exceptional form, winning all her singles and mixed doubles matches. Her recent triumphs include a decisive victory over Leylah Fernandez and a convincing 6-4, 6-2 win against Croatia’s Donna Vekic in Perth. The latter match was particularly satisfying for Gauff as it avenged her loss to Vekic during the Paris Olympics. Reflecting on the victory, she said, “Really happy with how I played today. She’s a great player. The Olympics loss hurt, so I definitely was thinking about it just as motivation to do better, and I’m happy to send my team through.”
Following their quarterfinal qualification, the American team celebrated their success and looked forward to New Year’s Eve festivities. However, when asked about her New Year resolution, Gauff provided an unconventional response. She explained, “I kind of stopped doing New Year’s resolutions because it works for like two weeks, and then I don’t keep up with it. So, you know, I don’t know. There are no resolutions. I think just do better than I did the year before.”
Taylor Fritz, ranked world number four, also contributed significantly to Team USA’s success, defeating Borna Coric 6-3, 6-2 under challenging conditions in Perth. Their combined efforts have set up an intense quarterfinal clash against China.
While Gauff has chosen to leave resolutions behind, she embraced a fresh perspective for the New Year in another way: a bold new hairstyle. Renowned celebrity stylist Yojanse Jimenez worked on Gauff’s hair before her departure to Australia. He shared the process on Instagram, revealing that Gauff’s hair was custom-colored with Redken Shades EQ to create striking ginger tones and styled into knotless braids. Using Carol’s Daughter products, the stylist ensured the look was both stylish and protective. Gauff showed her appreciation by sharing Jimenez’s post on her Instagram story, calling him “the best!!!”
The combination of her new look and stellar performances has ignited excitement among fans, who eagerly anticipate what lies ahead for the tennis star in 2025. With her confidence soaring, Coco Gauff seems poised to make the upcoming year one of her most memorable yet.
