Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou shares what he really thinks of Nuno Espirito Santo at Nottingham Forest

Nuno Espírito Santo will aim to secure another crucial three points for Nottingham Forest on Boxing Day as they face Tottenham Hotspur at the City Ground. Tottenham, under manager Ange Postecoglou, have faced criticism this season, particularly after a heavy 6-3 defeat to Liverpool on Sunday, which has left them languishing in the bottom half of the Premier League table.

For Espírito Santo, this fixture holds additional significance, as his tenure at Tottenham ended prematurely after a lackluster 17-game spell. While his reputation in England appeared tarnished following his dismissal, Nottingham Forest’s owner offered him a chance to rebuild his career, and Espírito Santo has since thrived in his role.

On Saturday, former player and pundit Brian Laws praised Espírito Santo’s impact at Forest, and it seems Postecoglou shares a similar admiration. Despite Tottenham’s struggles this season, largely due to numerous injuries, the Spurs boss expressed respect for Espírito Santo in his pre-match press conference.

Postecoglou acknowledged Espírito Santo’s challenges during his stint at Tottenham and commended his current success. He highlighted that Espírito Santo’s achievements at Wolves had initially showcased his managerial quality, and though his time at Tottenham was unsuccessful, the Portuguese coach has proven his capabilities at Forest. Postecoglou remarked on Forest’s ability to thrive in the Premier League after promotion, contrasting them with other newly promoted teams that have struggled in recent years. He praised Espírito Santo’s management style and character, noting that Forest’s success is a testament to his leadership.

The Boxing Day clash offers Espírito Santo a chance to further trouble Postecoglou, as Tottenham’s defensive frailties have been exposed this season. Despite their ability to score goals, their propensity to concede has made them vulnerable. Forest’s dynamic attacking approach could pose a significant challenge for Tottenham, especially if defenders like Radu Drăgușin and Archie Gray feature prominently for the Reds.

Playing at home on Boxing Day, Nottingham Forest could benefit from a charged atmosphere at the City Ground, making it a challenging task for Tottenham to secure a positive result. While the match will not be straightforward, Forest’s form and Espírito Santo’s tactical acumen could tilt the contest in their favor.
