Fiji’s national football team is facing challenges at the MSG Prime Ministers Cup after two consecutive draws against Vanuatu and Papua New Guinea. With just two points from two matches, Fiji currently sits in fourth place on the table.
Reflecting on yesterday’s 1-1 draw with PNG, Coach Marika Rodu expressed satisfaction with the team’s effort but acknowledged that the match could have easily gone either way. “The boys kept pushing, creating opportunities. We were often in the final third and inside the box, especially in the second half,” he said.
However, conceding an early goal was a setback for Fiji, as the defense was caught out of position. Rodu also highlighted a crucial moment in the match when a foul on Thomas Dunn in the box was not called, which could have changed the game’s outcome. “No point dwelling on missed chances, but these were significant moments that could have secured us three points,” he noted.
The team will now face the Solomon Development team on Thursday, with added pressure to perform well and secure a win.
