‘The Springboks always comes first’ – Handre Pollard addresses Test fly-half battle ahead of Champions Cup clash with rival

Handre Pollard, a seasoned South African fly-half, is facing competition from younger talents like Jordan Hendrikse and Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu within the Springboks setup but remains committed to the team’s priorities. Despite being a veteran, Pollard acknowledges the evolving nature of the fly-half position and the importance of mentoring the next generation. His role has shifted slightly due to the emergence of these new players, but he remains a vital part of the squad, willing to share his experience and learn from the younger players.

Pollard will return to action with Leicester Tigers against the Sharks in the Investec Champions Cup. He talks about the distinct styles of rugby in different leagues—more physical and structured in the Premiership compared to the looser, more expansive game in the Top 14. His upcoming match presents a unique challenge, with games that span across different styles and locations.

There are also rumors about his potential move to Japan for the 2025/26 season, but Pollard is currently undecided about his future. He enjoys the challenges of adapting to different styles of rugby and remains focused on the task at hand with Leicester and the Springboks.
