The quarterback situation for the Texas Longhorns was expected to be smooth this season. Steve Sarkisian initially named Quinn Ewers as the starting quarterback over Arch Manning, prompting speculation that Manning might transfer. However, Manning chose to stay and learn under Sarkisian and Ewers instead of leaving.
Despite this, the season didn’t go as planned for the Longhorns, as they lost to Kirby Smart’s Georgia Bulldogs twice—once during the regular season and again in the SEC Championship game.

Ewers is now considering whether to declare for the NFL draft or return for another year in college football. Scouts believe he should use his final year of eligibility, but a recent report suggests that the Longhorns are confident Manning will be their starting quarterback for the upcoming season.
Fan reactions to the news varied. One fan speculated Manning might transfer to Georgia, while another suggested he could go to UNC. Some advised Ewers to transfer to another team if he hopes to play as a starter elsewhere.
Quinn Ewers is reportedly “debating” on returning to college football and forgoing the NFL Draft yet again.
However, Texas is reportedly “ready” to move on to Arch Manning next season, which would prompt Ewers to enter the transfer portal.

After losing the SEC Championship game, the Longhorns were given the No. 5 seed by the College Football Playoff committee, which means they will face the No. 12 Clemson Tigers in the first round on Dec. 21 in Austin.
Former NFL scout John Middlekauff argued that if the Longhorns want a chance at winning the NCAA Championship, they should start Manning over Ewers. Despite Ewers’ experience and being a relatively better passer than Manning, Sarkisian has remained committed to starting him if healthy.
