Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou delivered a candid assessment of Timo Werner’s performance following Spurs’ 1-1 draw against Rangers in the Europa League. Postecoglou was notably critical of Werner’s first-half display, describing it as “unacceptable” in his post-match comments. The German forward, who was substituted at halftime, was reportedly given a dressing down by Postecoglou in the dressing room.
Despite Spurs’ struggles, Dejan Kulusevski’s equaliser in the 75th minute salvaged a point for the team, but it was Werner’s performance that drew the most attention from the manager. Postecoglou emphasized that, as a senior international player, Werner should be performing at a much higher level, especially given Tottenham’s current lack of depth in the squad. He expressed frustration, pointing out that if younger players are expected to contribute significantly, the senior players, including Werner, must also meet high expectations.
Werner, on loan at Spurs from RB Leipzig, is expected to step up, and Postecoglou made it clear that poor performances are not acceptable, particularly from more experienced players.
