The Fijian Drua are set to embark on a unique and exciting journey next week, marking a first-time experience for the team as a group. Drawing inspiration from the Flying Fijians’ memorable stay in Welagi village, Taveuni, prior to the Rugby World Cup in France, the Drua will take a similar path but in a different region of Fiji.
The team had a busy schedule yesterday with their Media Content Day, followed by preparations for their Family Day and participation in the Sun Bell Drua 10s tournament today.
Journey to Kadavu
Head Coach Glen Jackson revealed that the Drua will head to Kadavu next week, an experience that promises to be both meaningful and exciting for the team and the local community.
“We go this week to prepare for some rugby stuff and then next week we go to Kadavu. We’re extremely excited. We know Master Naca has done a lot of work there—he’s from there. A lot of our boys have roots in Kadavu, so getting over there should be great for the community,” said Jackson.
Development Players and Sun Bell Drua 10s
Jackson also highlighted the involvement of development players in the Drua 10s tournament. Players like Inia Tabuavou, Peni Matawalu, and Simione Kuruvoli will showcase their skills, with two Drua sides set to compete at Prince Charles Park in Nadi.
Community and Accessibility
The tournament is free for all spectators, making it a great opportunity for fans to enjoy rugby and connect with the Drua team. The visit to Kadavu further reinforces the team’s commitment to engaging with local communities and embracing their cultural and rugby roots.
Stay tuned for updates as the Drua continue their preparations and community outreach!
