The Fiji Airways Men’s 7s team secured third place at the Cape Town 7s tournament with a dominant 47-10 victory over Spain in the bronze medal match. This victory ensures Fiji remains at the top of the World Rugby Sevens Series standings as they prepare for the next tournament in Perth this January.
Fiji took a 21-10 lead into halftime, thanks to three converted tries by Joji Nasova, Filipe Sauturaga, and Jerry Matana. Despite Spain’s determined efforts to challenge Fiji, the Pacific Islanders returned even stronger after the break, scoring four unanswered tries. George Bose, Terio Tamani, Kavekini Tanivanuakula, and Vuiviawa Naduvalo added their names to the scoresheet, sealing the emphatic win.
Earlier in the tournament, Fiji fell short in the semifinals, losing 19-17 to France, who sought revenge after their defeat to Fiji in Dubai the previous week. This loss denied Fiji a spot in the final.
During the pool stage, Fiji showcased their dominance with a 70-7 win over Uruguay and a closely contested 17-12 victory against Great Britain.
