The Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s team suffered a heavy defeat in their opening pool match at the Cape Town 7s in South Africa, losing 31-0 to the USA.
From the start, the USA dominated the game and prevented Fiji from gaining any momentum. Nia Toliver led the charge for the USA, scoring two tries in the first half. Fiji struggled with discipline throughout the match, receiving two yellow cards in each half. These penalties gave the USA opportunities to extend their lead.
Fiji came close to scoring but missed their chance when the ball was dropped on the tryline. Despite their efforts, they could not register any points in the game.
The USA capitalized on Fiji’s mistakes in the second half, adding three more tries. Kaylen Thomas scored one, while Alyssa Porter secured a brace to complete the scoring.
Next, the Fijiana 7s team will face Great Britain at 10:16 p.m. Meanwhile, the Fiji men’s team is set to play Uruguay at 12:38 a.m. tomorrow, followed by a match against Great Britain at 4:19 a.m.
