The Fiji Airways Men’s 7s rugby team is showing strong potential to claim the World Series title next year, which could lead to possible financial rewards. Fiji last secured the title during the 2018/2019 season. However, the Minister for Youth and Sports indicated that no discussions about financial incentives have taken place yet, as it is still early in the season.
The minister emphasized that the team is currently undergoing a rebuilding phase and has significant goals to achieve. Following their recent victory over Spain in the Dubai 7s final, he noted that Fiji is making promising progress. He expressed optimism about the team’s trajectory, highlighting their position as leaders in the series at this early stage. The government remains committed to supporting the team whenever needed.
Under the leadership of head coach and former captain Osea Kolinisau, Fiji is expected to regain its dominant status on the international 7s rugby stage. The Cape Town 7s tournament is next on their schedule, with Fiji set to face Uruguay early Sunday morning, followed by a match against Great Britain later that same morning.
In the women’s competition, the Fijiana team will play against the USA on Saturday evening and meet Great Britain later the same night.
