Saukuru backs FSC for sports festival next year

The Minister for Youth and Sports expressed optimism about the potential expansion of the Fiji Sports Council’s 7s tournament into a broader multi-sport festival in the coming year. He proposed the inclusion of various disciplines to foster sports development in Fiji.

He commended the council for organizing the inaugural 7s tournament, which took place over the weekend, describing it as a commendable initiative to enhance the quality of rugby in the country. The tournament showcased the talents of emerging players, demonstrating its potential as a platform for discovering and nurturing local talent.

The minister suggested that the festival could integrate other sports, such as under-20 netball, volleyball, soccer, and even futsal, to encourage participation across different disciplines. He emphasized that this strategy could contribute to a holistic improvement in sports development, benefiting athletes across Fiji.

The 7s tournament concluded successfully, leading to the selection of 18 players who will represent Fiji at the Hamilton 7s in New Zealand in February.
