Sevu Reece, a winger for the All Blacks, has admitted to a charge of wilful damage stemming from an incident at a party in Christchurch. The suppression order preventing the publication of his name was lifted following a court hearing.
Reece appeared before Judge Katie Elkin for sentencing and was granted a discharge without conviction. The 27-year-old has reportedly been addressing alcohol-related issues, undergoing treatment, and has abstained from drinking since his arrest last year.
This marks the second instance where Reece has avoided a conviction. In 2018, he was discharged without conviction after admitting to a charge of common assault involving his then-partner.
The recent case initially involved two charges against Reece: unlawfully taking a car without theft and intentionally damaging the garage door of the car owner. Reece denied these charges and requested a trial by judge alone. Subsequently, the charges were reduced to a single count of wilful damage, to which Reece pleaded guilty.
According to the police report, the incident occurred on November 15, 2023, at a residential property in Christ church.
