No quarterfinals in Cape Town 7s

The Cape Town 7s tournament in South Africa this weekend will not feature quarterfinal matches. This change emphasizes the importance of pool-stage performances for the Fiji Airways Men’s and Women’s teams, as only the top team from each pool will advance to the semifinals.

The tournament format consists of four pools, each with three teams, and the winners of these pools will progress to the top four. For the Fiji men’s team, which recently triumphed at the Dubai 7s, this means defeating both Great Britain and Uruguay in their pool games to secure a spot in the semifinals. They are scheduled to face Uruguay at 12:38 am on Sunday, followed by a match against Great Britain at 4:19 am.

The Fijiana team has a similarly crucial task. They will play against the USA at 7:00 pm on Saturday before taking on Great Britain at 10:16 pm. A victory in both matches will be necessary for them to top their pool and qualify for the semifinals.

This competitive structure leaves no room for error, as each match directly impacts the teams’ chances of advancing.
