The Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s team is set to play against Hong Kong China in the 9th place playoff at 9 PM after a challenging journey through the Group A matches at the Dubai Sevens.
The tournament has been a tough test for the young Fijiana squad, which includes nine players making their debut alongside four experienced team members. In their opening group match, the team faced a 30-12 loss to Ireland. Their struggles continued with a heavy 42-7 defeat against a dominant Australian side in the second game. In their final group match, they narrowly lost 15-14 to China, a result that eliminated their chances of advancing to the cup quarterfinals.
Despite these setbacks, team captain Adimereani Rogosau commended the efforts of her players, particularly the newcomers. She expressed pride in the determination and resilience the team displayed throughout the competition. Rogosau acknowledged that while the results were not as hoped, the debutants showed great potential.
With one game remaining in the tournament, the Fijiana 7s team is focused on finishing strong and ending the Dubai Sevens on a positive note.
